One of the UK’s best-known classical artists, clarinettist Emma Johnson leads a collection (or, in rat terms, a ‘mischief’) of young recorder players in a special Bristol performance of Jonathan Dove’s The Pied Piper. Originally commissioned by Southampton Music Service, this delightful 20-minute piece of musical theatre tells the cautionary tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, set to a backdrop of children’s artwork.

Preludes music project has been working with young players from Oasis Academy Long Cross and Oasis Academy Bankleaze primary schools, plus a consort of more advanced young players brought together especially for the occasion.

The performance is preceded by Emma and John’s introduction to the wonders of the clarinet and piano through a popular collection of pieces chosen especially for a young audience.
