This recital features the violinist Paul Barrett and clarinetist Mary Barrett performing George Frederich Fuchs’ Duet Op.14, together with the bassoonist Sally Bartholomew playing Malcolm Arnold’s Fantasy for Bassoon Op.86.
Malcolm Arnold was commissioned to write five fantasies by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, to be used as test pieces in the Birmingham International Wind Competition May 1966. The Fantasies are written to show the full capabilities of the instruments and to show them in their best light.
