Ralph Vaughan Williams Dona nobis pacem

With its filmic, visual quality, gripping narrative and vividly descriptive scoring, Richard Blackford’s beautiful and dramatic setting of the Stabat Mater text is a modern masterpiece that has received many performance around the UK since its composition in 2018. The accompaniment of a string orchestra and solo saxophone add to the pathos and drama. The choir is delighted to welcome back to Bristol international soloist Amy Dickson.

Marking the 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams’ birth, the 90-strong choir performs the composer’s cantata Dona nobis pacem – a plea for peace setting words from the Bible and the poetry of Walt Whitman. The choir is joined by two rising opera stars.

City of Bristol Choir is pleased to present these two intensely moving pieces with their themes of consolation, peace, and reconciliation on Remembrance Sunday. The concert remembers the casualties not only of the World Wars but of more recent conflicts, very much at the forefront of our hearts and minds.

Tickets will go on sale on 8th June from St George’s box office.
