Preludes
Preludes is a long term (7 yr) classical music project in primary schools. It is designed to provide intensive music tuition and develop
classical orchestras in primary schools.
Too often, classical music is seen as an elitist activity and Preludes is tackling this by providing classical orchestral training to
young people from aged 4 – 11. Preludes seeks to put classical music at the
heart of children's education and is working with two primary schools in South Bristol, Gay Elms and Ilminster Avenue. The project
also works with two centres supporting children with special educational needs – the Autistic Resource Base (ARB) at Gay Elms and
Class 5 at Ilminster Avenue Specialist Nursery (where children have severe and complex learning difficulties.
Preludes is delivering twice weekly Hum n Drum music sessions to Reception classes in both schools
and is also giving regular sessions to the ARB and Class 5. The first year of pupils has now completed two years. Already the project is having a huge impact on the children, the teachers, the schools and the communities they serve. Working on
improving the 4 C's – concentration, co-ordination, co-operation and confidence, the Hum n Drum sessions are benefitting each child enormously.
Preludes and the children involved are constantly changing so keep visiting this page to see how they're progressing!
